A Letter from the TRUE Project's Co-founders

The TRUE Project is a three-day virtual event commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

It was created with several goals in mind. The main ones being to amplify the voices of disabled BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other dual-minorities, to pay tribute to the disability rights activists who paved the way for us, and to celebrate disability culture.

We have worked to build a widespread and public platform where disabled writers, artists, speakers, and creators can not only be recognized but celebrated in a safe space.

The event will kick-off with opening ceremonies on July 24, 2020 that will include a video package and land acknowledgements. Later that same day, we will be hosting a webinar featuring notable disability activists to discuss topics such as disability justice, the intersectionality of race and ableism, and much more. This will be followed by a full day of events ranging from adaptive yoga to live book readings by disabled authors plus discussions led by parents of disabled children. On the final day, July 26th 2020, the anniversary of the signing of the ADA, the TRUE Project will host a live online town hall meeting. We will facilitate a discussion regarding the ADA, the politics surrounding it, and where do we, the disabled community, go from here regarding accessibility and disability rights.

A special thank you goes to our co-organizers Elle Zusi, Juliana Good, and Madelaine Reis, who worked tirelessly to make this idea a reality.

Thank you to all of the business owners, particularly the disabled business owners, who donated to The TRUE Project. Your generosity will ensure that all the content brought to our audience over the duration of this event will be fully accessible.

Let us be mindful of the past and those who came before us without losing sight of our future goals.
